Connection Health Monitoring
Once connected, monitor your WordPress integration in the Integrations dashboard:
- Connection Status: Connected/Disconnected
- Last Sync: When content was last synchronized
- Plugin Version: Ensure you're running the latest version
- Error Logs: Any plugin errors or connection issues
Rotating Credentials Without Reconnecting
If a site's stored WordPress username or application password needs to change — the password was reset, or a client rotated it on their end — you don't need to remove the connection and set it up again.
On the client's Websites tab, find the site's card and click Update Credentials (it only shows once the site already has a WordPress connection). Enter the new username and/or application password and save; leave either field blank to keep its current value.
Generate a new application password in WordPress under Users → Profile → Application Passwords. It's a separate credential from the account's login password, so resetting it doesn't affect anyone logging into the WordPress dashboard directly.
Troubleshooting
"Plugin not found" error during automatic installation
- Verify your WordPress URL is correct
- Ensure your site is publicly accessible
- Check that the site is running WordPress 5.0 or higher
- Try manual installation instead
Authentication failures
- Verify your WordPress admin credentials
- Ensure the MCP plugin is activated
- Check that your af-gemini-connect API key is valid
Content not syncing
- Verify the plugin is activated and configured
- Check your API key permissions
- Ensure the connection is active in af-gemini-connect
Plugin conflicts
- Deactivate other plugins temporarily to identify conflicts
- Ensure you're using the latest plugin version
- Check PHP version compatibility (requires PHP 7.4+)
A plugin update added a feature that isn't showing up on the site
- Some plugin releases add new configuration fields (for example, a tracking ID used by a new capture feature). These fields only reach the site the next time its update settings are pushed.
- If a site was updated but a new feature still isn't active, ask your AI assistant to re-push the plugin's update configuration for that site. This uses the
wordpress_reconfigure_plugin_updatesMCP tool. It's flagged as a destructive action, so it will ask for confirmation before running. - See the MCP Tool Reference for details.
Best Practices
- Keep the plugin updated to ensure compatibility and security
- Use a staging site for testing before connecting production sites
- Set up proper user roles to control AI access levels
- Monitor plugin performance to avoid slowing down your site
- Regular backups before major updates or configuration changes
Next Steps
After connecting WordPress, you can:
- Set up automated content calendars
- Configure AI blogging workflows
- Implement SEO optimization routines
- Set up performance monitoring alerts
- Integrate with Google Search Console
