Save vs. Publish — What "Live" Really Means

Editing in Snapshot Builder feels instant — the preview updates as you work, so it's tempting to think you're editing the real website in real time. You're not: the preview shows your private draft, not the public site.

• Save stores your edits as a draft. It's safe to walk away and come back — but the live website hasn't changed yet.
• Publish takes the draft and pushes it live, right away, for anyone who visits the site.

When Publish Says "Nothing To Publish"

If you click Publish and the page didn't actually change, the builder now tells you plainly instead of quietly finishing a fake publish. You'll see a message like "No changes to publish — your site is already up to date with your last publish."

Swapping a photo that appears on more than one page now updates every place it's used, so this message should only show up when there's genuinely nothing new to push live. If you expected a real change and get this message anyway, go back and confirm the edit actually saved before publishing again.

Free Edits vs. AI Credits

Clicking on something and using the on-screen controls — swapping an image, dragging a crop, or nudging spacing, size, or alignment — is free. It writes straight to your draft and never uses AI credits.

Typing a request into the chat box is different: it can call the AI agent, which does use AI credits. A few everyday chat actions are free now too:

• Attaching a photo while an image is already selected.
• A request that quotes the exact old text and the exact new text, like change "Book Now" to "Get a Quote."
• Any spacing, size, alignment, or crop nudge from the on-screen controls.

Anything vaguer — "make this pop more," a brand-new section — still goes to the AI agent and can use credits.

Before a chat request runs, you'll see a credit estimate, not a dollar amount — something like "~14 credits (holds 20 in case it runs long — unused is released)." The larger "holds" number is just a safety reservation for a task that runs longer than expected; anything unused goes right back to your balance. The longer the builder has been used, the more accurate these estimates get, since they're calibrated from real past runs instead of a flat guess.

Typical Flow

1. Open the website record.
2. Launch Website Builder.
3. Snapshot Builder opens if the site uses the snapshot path.
4. Choose the page and section.
5. Make the update.
6. Review the output in the preview.
7. Click Save to keep your draft, or Publish when you're ready to go live.
